As promised the the last episode, this is the wall of songs that Harmonix had in its E3 booth for titles available in Rock Band 3 at launch.

Pretty impressive.

Damn.  I'd have to break out my wide angle lens for that.  Cool

Looks awesome, I just hope they put a discounted standard bundle together instead of the a la carte pricing, because according to this it will cost me a mint to replace my broken drum kit and get the new peripherals and add-ons.

Well, I'm not really sure about Ars Technica's math on that one.

They say $370 for the setup. But that's assuming you have NOTHING except three microphones to start with and you buy the absolute supreme best of all controllers. I think that's pretty unrealistic.

For example, if you get the keyboard controller (bundled with RB3 for $130) and you have/buy the drum set ($50 plus $40 for add on cymbals), you won't be buying the MIDI interface. If you already have a pro keyboard and pro MIDI drumset, you won't be buying the RB controllers.

Also, not everyone will want — or need — the Fender PRO guitar. It really only makes sense if you already play guitar or want to learn to play guitar. For the most part, people will either use their existing peripheral or buy the RB2 controller (which runs $40 - $60).

So... worst case scenario... you don't have a MIDI keyboard or drumset or a RB2 controller of your own, and you want all the controllers PLUS the PRO guitar? It will run you:

$130 (keyboard and game)
$90 (new drumset and cymbal kit)
$150 (Fender guitar)
---------
$370

However, if this is your first foray into rhythm gaming, I doubt you'd want to go whole hog like that. More realistically, you have a guitar controller (or several) from older games, and (unless you've broken yours), you have drums. In the case of Scuigi, you'll prolly be paying something like:

$130 (Keyboard and game)
$90 (new drum set and cymbal kit)
---------
$220

Which is hefty, but consider that the game itself retails for $60, so it's more like:

$70 (Keyboard)
$90 (drumset and cymbals)
--------
$160

I already have asspiles invested in RB/GH games.

Ion Drums: $300
Rock Band Fender Wireless Wooden Guitar: $100 (I fot it for 66% off)
Logitech Wireless Guitar: $200
then I have a wireless plastic RB Fender, a GH plastic guitar with the slide feature, a GH plastic Les Paul, 2 Wired GH Explorer Guitars, a wireless PS2 guitar, 1 wired RB Mic, 2 wireless Lips Mics...

God, I am pathetic....

This is getting stupid.

The whole rhythm game thing, not this thread.

I don't know. I got kinda "meh" on the Rock Band thing in the last year. Mostly because I sing and there's not really any technological advances on the "sing" thing. And don't even try to say Lips or Sing Star. That's just... stupid.

Anyway, this game actually has me rethinking picking up the guitar controller and playing on my own instead of with Kevin. I suck at guitar, but the prospect of eventually being able to actually PLAY the REAL guitar is kinda enticing.
